It was a wintry outside but inside, the warmth of companionship filled the Hellenic Centre. Friends and neighbours sat together to visit, try their luck at the 50/50 draw and the toonie raffle and listen to an inspiring speaker–Alex Schadenberg of Euthanasia Prevention Coalition. Check out Alex’s website at www.epcc.ca
We also had the support of several faith communities, including several Lutheran pastors, Catholic priests and Bishop Dabrowski who prayed blessing over the meal.
The raffle prizes were “must see” items ranging from gift certificates to the theatre to baby blankets to fresh fruit baskets. Everyone had fun trying to see who could win! PLUS the 50/50 went over big this year. Everyone was waiting with bated breath to see who would win the jackpot!
Alex’s talk was very informative. Some people were shocked to learn just how much euthanasia and medically assisted suicide is becoming a part of our culture. We need to become more educated so that these “fatal flaws” will not continue to grow into a chasm of fear.
We are so very grateful to everyone who helped to make the Gala a success from raffle prize donors to the volunteers who helped to set up, arrange flowers for the tables and stayed to help us afterward. Many hands make light the work indeed!
The staff at the Hellenic Centre were amazing!
This year’s recipients of the “Youth for Life Award” were five young people from the same family! Joseph, Hannah, Matthew, Lydia and Deborah Balasch participate in all of LARTLA’s events. These inspiring young men and women have learned well from their parents, Judy and Henry as well as from their eldest brother, James. Team work is essential in any walk of life. God bless the Balasch family for their example and their generosity!
